New Delhi, March 16: Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janta Party President Keshav Prasad Maurya was on Thursday admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after his blood pressure reportedly shot up. News Agency ANI reported that he has been immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital. According to ANI report, he has been put under observation for next 24 hours and will be relieved tomorrow.
After the Bharatiya Janata Party’s sweeping victory in Uttar Pradesh, he was given the task of finding the next Chief Minister for the party in the state. He, too, was reportedly in the race for the Chief Ministerial post. However, he declined the offer asking how could he select his own name for Chief Ministerial post.
A committed Rashtriya Swayamseval Sangh volunteer, Keshav Prasad Maurya rose to prominence in a short span of time. Many political analysts opined that his career has resembled that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He was born in a poor family and sold tea to support his family. He has been chosen thrice in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He won the assembly elections in 2002, 2007 and 2012 in Uttar Pradesh. In 2014, he won the Phulpur Seat in Lok Sabha elections. The seat had remained a Congress bastion for long and was once represented by former prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru.
He has been considered as one of the key strategists in ensuring a sweeping victory for the Bharatiya Janta Party in Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. Hailing from the Other Backwards Castes background, he was elected Bharatiya Janta Party Uttar Pradesh President in April last year. He has been credited with the success of the saffron party as he took less than a year in ensuring the win. However, his election was marred by controversies as he declared 11 criminal cases against him in his affidavit to the Election Commission.
