Bihar, August 24, 2022: Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar on August 23 visited the Vishnupad temple in Gaya with IT Minister Mohammad Israil Mansuri which has created a storm in the state.

BJP in Bihar has demanded an apology from Kumar as he entered a temple that bars the entry of non-Hindus and thus hurt the “religious sentiments” of Hindus.

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Jaiswal and Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi accused the CM of inflicting “deliberate insult” on the temple by taking Mansuri with him.

On Tuesday, Sushil Modi said: “Nitish Kumar has visited Vishnupad temple several times and he knows very well that only those who follow sanatan dharma are allowed inside”.
Mansuri told the media that he is “honoured to go inside the temple”.

Vishnupad Temple management committee’s secretary, Gajadhar Lal Pathak, said, “Although entry of non-Hindus is banned (in the temple), I am not sure how to react to the situation. If we would have known about his(Mansuri’s) visit earlier then we would have escorted him to the VIP section created in the temple for non-Hindu guests”.

JD(U) leader Ashok Chaudhary said, “It is BJP’s mindset that Hindus and Muslims must not go to each other’s places of worship. We visit temples and masjids with the same spirit. It is not something over which a fuss should be made”.

Grand Alliance leaders dismissed the BJP’s remarks as an effort to rake up “non-relevant” issues.
