Celebrating its fifth year in the South Asian region, the BMJ Awards is back – to honor the passion and commitment of medical professionals in the region. Over the past four years, some of the most prestigious and celebrated names in medicine have been associated with the Awards in South Asia – through the esteemed jury panel, sponsors, partners and nominations.
Launched in 2014, with continued growth ever since, the Awards last year received more than 2000 entries, providing credence to the stature and the respect of the Awards amongst the healthcare community in South Asia. It is a much cherished event amongst young and senior clinicians alike, with the focus on bringing to the forefront the unsung heroes of South Asian healthcare.
To be held in Chennai on December 1, 2018, this annual event has proved to be a much awaited experience in the lives of healthcare professionals who send their entries every year, showcasing their work and benchmarking themselves against their peers.
The 2018 categories span healthcare quality, medical education, healthcare innovation, research and clinical excellence, amongst others. Nominations are invited this year from 9 countries- India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, which has been included this year.
Nominations will open from June 1, 2018 and can be filed on BMJ Awards website (https://southasiaawards.bmj.com/) till August 19, 2018. The finalists will be announced on September 23, 2018, for the next round of the shortlisted nominations.
The Awards provide an opportunity to gain recognition– from national media, peers, healthcare leaders – and appreciation, for the winners and the finalists alike.

Last year’s finalists represented medical institutions such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi; Christian Medical College, Vellore; Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh; Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore, Max Smart Super Specialty Hospital, Delhi, among many other healthcare organizations across South Asia.
The much awaited event on December 1 this year will announce the names of South Asian healthcare champions after rigorous evaluations and jury assessments – once again felicitating excellence, innovation and passion.
