Cannes (France), 19th May 2023: Mads Mikkelsen, who replaced Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald in the Warner Brother Fantastic Beasts Series ,ran into him at Cannes 2023 while attending the premiere of the actor’s film Jeanne du Barry.
Made Mikkelson posted a still from their meeting on Facebook and cleverly captioned it, “Grindelwald and Grindelwald” The post has since gone viral and making rounds on the internet.
Johnny Depp lost a libel action in 2020 against the UK tabloid The Sun, which had called him a “wife beater.”
Soon , the actor was fired from the Harry Potter spin-off franchise Fantastic Beasts, and Mads Mikkelsen took over. At the request of Warner Bros., Johnny Depp stated in 2020 that he has agreed to withdraw from his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter series spin-off Fantastic Beasts. “I have respected and agreed to that request,” he said on Instagram.
The move had upset fans worldwide, however looking at the two stars greet each other at the Cannes made fans extremely excited. A user gushing over the two actors wrote on Twitter, “”A meeting of the two Grindelwalds…truly magical.”
Another fan wrote, “Fantastic Grindewalds and Where to Find Their Cast.” While another fan added, “As someone who loves both actors and loved both their portrayals but still upset with how everything went down… I’m like.”
Last year, a jury ruled in Johnny Depp’s favour in a defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. The entire trial was filmed.
His first film after the trial is Jeanne Du Barry which is premiering at Cannes 2023.
