New Delhi [India], July 22 (ANI): The National Aeronautics and Space Administration agency responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research in the United states has congratulated Indian Space Research Mission while asserting that it looks forward to learning from it.

Taking to Twitter, NASA wrote, “Congrats to @ISRO on the launch of Chandrayaan 2, a mission to study the Moon. We’re proud to support your mission comms using our Deep Space Network and look forward to what you learn about the lunar South pole where we will send astronauts on our #Artemis mission in a few years.”

France and Germany also congratulated the country on achieving this feat.

India on Monday created history by successfully launching the country’s second indigenous Chandrayaan-2 mission to the Moon, a feat which comes 11 years after the launch of Chandrayaan-1.

Chandrayaan-2 is India’s first space mission that will conduct a soft landing on the moon’s South Polar Region. The mission makes India 4th country to the soft-land rover on the surface of the moon after Russia, USA, and China.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of India’s indigenous moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, and said every Indian is immensely proud today. The Prime Minister congratulated the space K Sivan for the lunar mission launch.

“Many congratulations to your entire team K Sivan Ji. Today’s launch is a landmark achievement and every Indian is proud of you,” he said in a recorded message.

“Making a comeback to launch Chandrayaan-2 one week after the first attempt proves that our scientists have the grit and resolve to counter any challenge. I have been told that the date of reaching moon will be the same as it was decided earlier. Chandrayaan-2’s successful landing will boost our knowledge systems about the moon. I congratulate ISRO’s entire team once more for this spectacular achievement,” he added.

Chandrayaan-2 will explore a region of Moon where no mission has ever set foot. The spacecraft consists of an orbiter, a lander, and a rover together referred to as “composite body.” The probe’s total mass is 3.8 ton and is expected to land on the Moon’s South Polar Region on September 6 or 7 this year

The spacecraft is now revolving around the earth with a perigee (nearest point to Earth) of 169.7 km and an apogee (farthest point to Earth) of 45,475 km.

Chandrayaan-2 is India’s second mission to the moon. It comprises a fully indigenous Orbiter, Lander (Vikram) and Rover (Pragyan). The Rover Pragyan is housed inside Vikram lander. The mission objective of Chandrayaan-2 is to develop and demonstrate the key technologies for end-to-end lunar mission capability, including soft-landing and roving on the lunar surface.
