Greater Noida (23 September 2025): In a major development ahead of its much-anticipated commercial launch, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has formally assumed charge of aviation security at the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA). With this induction, NIA becomes the 70th airport in India to come under the CISF’s security umbrella.

The induction ceremony, held at the airport site, was attended by senior officials from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, CISF, and Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL). Prominent dignitaries present included Praveer Ranjan, IPS, Special DG Airports, CISF; Senthil Avoodai Krishna R, IPS, IG/Airport Sector; Rakesh Kumar Singh, CEO NIAL; Kiran Jain, COO NIA; Shailendra Bhatia, Nodal Officer NIAL; and Sanjay Kataria, Regional Director, RO Delhi.

Security Mandate and Deployment

The CISF’s Aviation Security Group (ASG) and Airport Sector (APS) will oversee an extensive security framework covering perimeter and access control, passenger and baggage screening, terminal and landside surveillance, and deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs). Coordination with local police and law enforcement agencies will also form a critical part of the security grid.

In its first phase of deployment, more than 1,047 CISF personnel will be stationed at NIA under the supervision of a Chief Aerodrome Security Officer (CASO). The force strength is expected to increase in tandem with rising passenger volumes and expanded flight operations.

Leaders Speak

Speaking at the ceremony, Praveer Ranjan, Special DG Airports, CISF, said: The CISF is proud to bring Noida International Airport under its protection. Our layered security systems and globally benchmarked procedures are designed to safeguard not only passengers and crew but also vital aviation infrastructure. We will work in close coordination with the airport operator to ensure the highest standards of safety.

Echoing the sentiment, Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer of NIA, remarked: The induction of CISF marks a defining moment in our journey to operational readiness. Security is a cornerstone of our promise to deliver safe, seamless, and world-class passenger experiences. Partnering with CISF reinforces our commitment to uncompromising aviation safety.

Towards Becoming a Global Aviation Hub

The airport, being developed under a public-private partnership model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL) – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG – is envisioned as a world-class aviation hub for the National Capital Region (NCR) and western Uttar Pradesh.

When operational, the airport (IATA code: DXN) will initially feature one runway and a single passenger terminal with a handling capacity of 12 million passengers annually. Future phases will see expansion with additional runways and terminals. Notably, NIA has also committed to an ambitious net-zero emissions target, embedding sustainable design and operational principles in its master plan.

A Milestone on the Path to Launch

With airlines preparing to commence services and CISF formally in place to oversee security, the Noida International Airport is now a step closer to welcoming its first passengers. This induction not only strengthens the airport’s security framework but also signals its readiness to join the league of India’s next-generation airports set to redefine connectivity, safety, and passenger experience.
