Mumbai (India), 6th June 2023: Tanmay Bhat, a popular comedian and YouTuber, was the latest victim of a cyberattack, hours after renowned journalist Barkha Dutt’s digital news outlet, The Mojo Story, was breached. Bhat reported the situation on Twitter, requesting immediate intervention from YouTube and Google.
The AIB co-founder expressed his displeasure and distress on Monday, in a tweet intended for YouTube and Google, stating, “hi guys – my YouTube/gmail account has been hacked. 2FA bypassed. Need help urgently. Pls DM!”
To make matters worse, all of Tanmay Bhat’s recordings were removed, leaving the comic stunned and in need of immediate assistance.
YouTube responded to Tanmay and stated, “We take account security very seriously and after being alerted by Tanmay Bhat of the account being compromised due to unauthorised activity, our teams are investigating the case. We are working closely with Tanmay Bhat to secure and restore the account expeditiously.”
The event comes on the heels of the hacking of Barkha Dutt’s YouTube account, which resulted in the removal of all content from The Mojo Story platform.
The hackers, who renamed The Mojo Story’s YouTube account “@teslanewstar05,” substituted a video showing billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.
The channel has been dubbed “Tesla Corp” in Bhat’s case as well.
It is unclear whether there is a link between the two occurrences or if they are separate cases of hacking.
