New Delhi, August 5, 2023: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, accusing him of provoking the mob that killed Sikhs near Gurudwara Pul Bangash in Delhi during the 1984 Sikh riots. The charge sheet, filed in the 1984 Sikh riots case, has charged Tytler with murder.

According to the CBI, Tytler incited the mob, which resulted in the Gurudwara Pul Bangash being set on fire and the killing of three Sikh individuals on November 1, 1984. Witnesses quoted in the charge sheet stated that they saw Tytler getting out of his car and instigating the mob to first kill Sikhs and then engage in looting.

One witness recalled seeing Tytler present in front of the Gurudwara Pul Bangash, instigating the mob to attack the religious site. The witness also reported a group of men standing near the TB Hospital Gate in Delhi, where Tytler arrived in a car and reprimanded them, stating that his instructions had not been faithfully carried out. He expressed disappointment with the limited scale of killings in his constituency compared to other areas.

The charge sheet further reveals that Tytler had allegedly promised large-scale killings of Sikhs and sought full protection, feeling betrayed and let down by the mob’s actions.

The 1984 Sikh riots were a tragic and dark chapter in India’s history, where thousands of Sikhs lost their lives in communal violence. The CBI’s recent charge sheet against Tytler represents a significant development in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the nation watches with anticipation to see how justice will be served for the victims of one of the most devastating riots in India’s history.
