New Delhi, July 27, 2023: The passage of the contentious bill aimed at controlling services in Delhi appears to be imminent as the YSR Congress Party, led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, has pledged its support to the BJP-led government in both houses of parliament.

The YSR Congress Party, with its significant presence of nine members in Rajya Sabha and 22 in Lok Sabha, has a history of backing critical bills proposed by the government.

The alliance with the YSR Congress Party provides a much-needed boost to the government’s chances of securing approval for the Delhi bill in Rajya Sabha, where it lacks a majority.

The bill seeks to replace an ordinance that pertains to the control of bureaucrats in Delhi, which was earlier introduced by the Centre to override a Supreme Court order.

The court had ruled in favor of granting control over the transfer and appointments of bureaucrats to the elected government in Delhi, rather than the Centre.

V Vijaysai Reddy, a prominent leader of the YSR Congress Party, affirmed the party’s support for the government on both key issues, ensuring crucial backing for the government’s agenda.

In the upcoming Lok Sabha session, the 22 YSR Congress Party MPs will add to the government’s strength during the no-confidence motion moved by the opposition parties regarding the Manipur crisis. The motion, though anticipated to be defeated, is seen as a symbolic move by the INDIA coalition to compel Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the parliament on the situation in Manipur.

The government’s prospects in both houses of parliament have been strengthened by the backing of the YSR Congress Party, which has demonstrated its willingness to cooperate with the government on significant legislative matters in the past. The support of the 22 MPs from the party is poised to play a crucial role in the successful passage of the Delhi bill and in dealing with the no-confidence motion in Lok Sabha.
