Day2 of Jagran Film Festival a lot to offer to Cinema Lover

New Delhi, 2nd July 2016; Following an impactful day 1, the 7th Jagran Film Festival mesmerizes Delhi with its variety and renewed form. Cine-goers were overwhelmed with the vast spread of experiences that unfolded from watching iconic Indian and international films, to attending workshops, master classes and interacting with film wizards.

At the Siri Fort Auditorium, the vibe was upbeat through on day 1 and it started on the good note again with a Coffee Table session with Mayank Shekhar in conversation with Vani Tripathi, Sudhanshu Trivedi, Sudhir Mishra & Kaveri Bamzai on Is Cinema Over-Regulated, where various aspects related to cine world were discussed. During the conversation Sudhir Mishra insisted on debate among audience, filmmakers should be there. Whereas, Vani Tripathi tried to clear the difference between Censorship & Certification process. Sudhanshu Trivedi talked about lots of things related to government efforts towards policy, implementation and execution of certain things properly. A Q&A session also took place between the audience and panelists. One of the major things they all discussed was about the thinking process of individuals & filmmakers, as per the mind-set and acceptance, filmmakers can provide better and meaningful cinema and audience will also accept the same.

The movies on day 2 included V. Shantaram’s Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne, Bollywood Diaries by KD Satyam, Rajat Kapoor’s Private Detective, Arshinagar & Saari Raat by Aparna Sen, Jeewan Sathi, Dobaara by Bejoy Nambiar. In the retrospective segment Naseeruddin Shah Starrer Waiting was also screened. In the international segment; Zoe (Spanish), Oedipus King (Spanish/Argentina), Adventures of Juan Quinquin (Spanish/Cuba) were screening. Another highlight of Day 2 was Panel Discussion between Director Sudhir Mishra and Mayank Shekhar on Cinema Beyond Borders.

Jagran Film Festival’s flagship category Jagran Shorts that offers a national platform to short film makers from the world over brought to the fore films such as Letter To Jack (Dir Brunno Barbosa), The Interview (Dir Dmitry Moskvitin [Russian]), Charlie & Poppy (Dir Jennifer Potts), Sugar (Dir Bodi Rajkumar [Tamil]), Innter Conflict (Dir Bar Schrijver [Dutch]) & 7 Centimeters (Dir Metehan Sereflioglu [Turkish]).

Earlier the much awaited film festival had a grand gala opening with actor Naseeruddin Shah, director Ketan Mehta, director Sudhir Mishra, Pakistani director Khalid Ahmed, Jagran Group’s Mr. Sanjay Gupta and other distinguished guests. The 7th edition of the festival is showcasing the following categories this year; Indian Showcase, Jagran Shorts, World Panorama, Jagran Discovery, Country Focus, Zeal for Unity, Tributes and Secret Section.

Opening movie of the festival was with premiere of Ketan Mehta directed Toba Tek Singh followed by Chotay Shah directed by Sabiha Sumar. Both the movies received great response from the audience.

During the opening ceremony, Naseeruddin Shah said, we should contribute to cinema in the best manner we can. Talking about the movies beyond the border he said it’s great that we are making films together and hopefully we can see good cinema in near future.

Enthused by the response to this initiative by both the audiences and the filmmakers, the Festival in 2016, plans to travel an even greater distance. The Jagran Film Festival will start from Delhi, traveling through Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra, Meerut, Dehradun, Hisar, Ludhiana, Patna, Racnhi, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Indore, and Bhopal and finally culminated in Mumbai.
