Delhi Gurdwara Committee Seeks Nikki Haley help to free Indians from US detention centre, US Ambassador rolls bread at New Delhi Langar

New Delhi: United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who is touring India to strengthen ties between the two countries, visited several places of worship in Delhi today.

As she visited Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) raised the issue of 52 Indians, mostly Sikhs, being held at a detention centre in Oregon for being part of a large contingent of illegal immigrants seeking asylum there.

“We urged that those Indian were detained due of visa dispute there are not criminals, she immediately called the US ambassador to India and asked him to give us time to discuss the issue,” said Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chief  Manjeet Singh GK.  

He further said, “We have urged to provide legal aid, implementation of US foreign right and so on to the detained Indians. She assured for all possible help. US ambassador has given us time and we will meet them with all our documents.”

We have also sought appointment to minster of foreign affairs Sushma Swaraj meet and hand over the documents of the 52 sikh detainees.”   

On her first visit to India, as a US envoy to UN, Haley, visited several religious places this morning accompanied with US ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster.

Her first stop this morning was the Gauri Shankar Mandir. From there, she headed to Old Delhi and offered prayers at the historic Jama Masjid and interacted with the people outside the mosque. Later, she went to Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib in Chandni Chowk where she rolled chapatis for ‘langar’.
