Delhi likely to record 10,000 COVID cases today; Positivity to near 10%: Delhi Health Minister

New Delhi, January 5: Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Wednesday said, ”The capital is likely to record 10,000 COVID cases today with the positivity rate rising to nearly 10% and the third wave has hit Delhi,” ANI reported.

He further said that Delhi government has instructed to increase the number of reserved beds to 40% from 10%; nearly 2% of beds are occupied in the government hospitals.

He added, COVID-19 testing has been increased, around 90,000 tests were conducted on Tuesday, moreover he said, genome sequencing of all Covid samples is not possible now, only 300-400 samples is being sequenced.

As the COVID continues to rise, Dr. Ashish Khattar Senior Consultant Internal medicine at Delhi’s Venkateshwar’s hospital has recommended of wearing double face masks & maintain social distancing. He said, “Wearing double face masks and maintaining social distancing are recommended. People must not go to crowded places unless it is an emergency.”

He also Informed, in the current scenario, ICU admission is not required for COVID patients. This time, symptoms are milder and there is no major concern.

Moreover he suggested to be vigilant, whether it is mild or severe infection, as a mild infection may turn to severe and so it’s better to keep taking the same COVID precautions.

Delhi on Tuesday recorded 5,481 new cases with the positivity reaching to 8.37%. Total 464 Omicron cases have been recorded so far in the capital.
