New Delhi, July 30, 2023: As of July 22, Delhi has reported a total of 187 dengue cases, marking the highest tally since 2018. With the surge in cases, Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj announced on Sunday that the state government has issued instructions to officials to launch awareness campaigns on dengue in schools and among the general public to curb the spread of the virus.
Bhardwaj stated, “We have given instructions to the Health Department and DIP to run a campaign regarding Dengue in schools and among common people. Hospitals will be made ready for dengue cases. I also had a discussion with MCD Commissioner regarding the same today,” as per ANI news agency.
The recent rise in dengue cases in Delhi can be attributed to the unprecedented flood-like situation in the city. Dengue, a viral disease transmitted through mosquito bites to humans, is caused by four dengue virus serotypes: DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4. Upon genome sequencing of 20 positive samples, the Delhi government reported that 19 samples were found to have the strain type-2 of the virus.
In response to the escalating dengue situation, the Delhi government is taking proactive measures to educate the public about preventive measures and early detection of the disease. By conducting awareness campaigns in schools and communities, the authorities aim to equip people with knowledge on how to protect themselves and their families from dengue.
As the monsoon season continues, the risk of mosquito breeding and dengue transmission remains high. Therefore, it is crucial for citizens to stay vigilant, take necessary precautions, and seek medical attention at the earliest signs of dengue symptoms.
The government’s proactive approach, coupled with the cooperation of the public, is vital in mitigating the spread of dengue and ensuring a healthy and safe environment for everyone in the city.
