New Delhi, (17/6/2019): Doctors at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh recently removed a huge tumour weighing 24 kgs from the abdomen of a 32 year old African patient Aloyce John Jawe. The tumour had grown immensely which caused severe medical distress to the patient. The patient was flown from Tanzania, Africa to India after the doctors there could not perform the surgery.
Dr. Pradeep Jain, Director, GI Oncology, Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh and his team performed the complicated surgery and removed the giant tumour in a complex surgery.
Aloyce John was presented to the hospital in a weak condition with a large bulge in the abdomen and large scar from the previous surgery held in Tanzania. The patient’s MRI report shows a large tumour in his abdomen.
The patient was operated on 31st May. The tumour was densely adherent to the abdominal wall, urinary bladder and small intestines with large blood vessels surrounding the tumour. This procedure took six hours and during the operation the patient had lost close to 4 litres of blood.
Dr. Pradeep Jain while talking to Ten News said, “the patient came to us in a very severe condition. The tumour was residing in his abdomen for the past 1.5 years which made matters overly complicated and complex. The size of the tumour was increasing rapidly and it was pushing large intestine and compressing the ureters”.
“The surgery fortunately got successful and the patient is responding very well to the treatment. The tumour weighed 24 kg which is life threatening. The patient was fortunate to have survived this long without suffering any severe medical condition”.
“Patients may not have adequate medical facilities in their native countries but it is advisable to get the best treatment at the earliest and not wait for condition to become this serious”, he added.
