New Delhi (India), April 5, 2023: The ongoing controversy surrounding V.D. Savarkar in Maharashtra escalated as Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a scathing attack against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his critical remarks on the Hindutva ideologue.
Speaking at a gathering in Nagpur as part of the “Savarkar Gaurav Yatra,” Gadkari thanked Rahul Gandhi for inadvertently helping the BJP spread Savarkar’s message to every household.
Gadkari called for an apology from Rahul Gandhi, claiming that he had not read what his own grandparents, Indira Gandhi, and Feroze Gandhi, had said about Savarkar. He emphasized that it was Savarkar who demonstrated that Hindutva is a way of life and broke down caste barriers.
The controversy has been simmering in Maharashtra for some time, with political leaders from various parties expressing differing opinions on Savarkar’s legacy. Rahul Gandhi’s critical remarks have drawn sharp responses from BJP leaders, who see him as spreading misinformation about the Hindutva ideologue.
With the war of words continuing between the BJP and Congress over Savarkar, the issue has become a prominent topic of debate and discussion in Maharashtra’s political landscape, with both sides passionately advocating their respective views on the controversial figure.
The saga shows no signs of abating, as political tensions and rhetoric remain heightened in the state. The BJP leaders’ latest attack on Rahul Gandhi has further fueled the Savarkar row, adding more fuel to the already fiery debate.
