Haryana Governor advocates Make in India in education

Faridabad, March 5- Laying emphasis on introducing the concept of ‘Make in India’ in the field of education, Haryana Governor Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki said that all the educational institutes, scientists and technocrats should collectively contribute towards intellectual investment in the Country.
Prof. Solanki was addressing the inaugural session of the three day National Conference organised on the theme of “Role of Science and Technology towards Make in India” in YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad today. The Governor also released souvenir of the Conference and inaugurated ‘Digital YMCAUST’ application developed by the students of the University.
Taking a serious note of the issue of ‘brain drain’, the Governor said that the need of the hour is to promote the idea of ‘Think for India’. He said that today, when we are discussing on important issue of ‘Role of Science and Technology towards Make in India’, it becomes very important that we also hold discussions on ‘Think for India’. He also emphasised on the significance of skill development and practical education in educational institutes. He said that the educational institutes should impart such skill based practical education so that the students do not become burden on the society but come out with flying colours. He said that Digital India could not be imagined without Skill India.
The Governor said that latest research in science and technology has a major role to play to make ‘Make in India’ campaign a big success, for which engineers, technocrats and scientists have to contribute significantly. Describing 21st Century as the Century of science and technology, Mr. Solanki said that the programmes like Skill India, Start-Up, Make in India and Digital India are the needs of the hour for our country. He also appreciated the digital literacy campaign being implemented by YMCA University.
Defining the exact meaning of freedom, the Governor said that although we have political freedom, but economically we are still slaves and political freedom is worthless without economic freedom. Spiritually, we are leaders and if we become leaders economically as well, then coming time will be ours, he added.
In his welcome speech during the inaugural session, the Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Dinesh Kumar apprised the Governor about the various programs being executed by the university. He said that under Skill Development Programme of Community College of the University, one year diploma courses in Welding and Electricals have been started as a measure to enable the youth for self-employment. Also, free computer training programs under Digital Literacy Education have been started, he added.
Addressing the inaugural session, Director (Research), SRM University Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu and General President (Elect), Indian Science Congress Association, Prof. D Narayana Rao said that Science and Technology are the driving forces in the economic development of any country. He said that all youngsters have talent, we only need to harness that talent and utilise it for the development of our country through the medium science and technology. Also, he urged the students to contribute towards nutrition security of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO of GE oil and Gas who is also the alumnus of the University Mr Pramod Kaushik said that Science and Technology have a major role to play in the campaigns like Make in India and Digital India and steps being taken by his organisation towards promotion of science and technology in India.
Also present on the occassion were Chairperson of Indian Science Congress Association, Prof. Ashok Kumar Saxena, Deputy Commissioner, Faridabad Mr. Chander Shekhar, Additional Deputy Commission, Dr. Aditya Dhaiya, Principal, Aggarwal College Ballabhgarh, Dr. K.K. Gupta along with the students, faculty members and research scholars of the university. YMCA university has been a driving force in development of new age engineers with an attitude of innovation for the last many decades. Earlier the YMCA college of engineering at Faridabad was a part of the MD University. However, last year it was converted to a full fledged university leading to major changes in its programs for development of the youth and to introduce new streams in compliance to the new age requirements of the society.
