Farm leaders pay tribute to Former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh on his 119th birth anniversary

New Delhi, December 23: RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary, BKU leader Rakesh Tikait and other farm leaders on Thursday paid tribute to the Late Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on his 119 birth anniversary and also participated in a ‘hawan’

To commemorate the birth anniversary of the the fifth Prime Minister of India, and to signify the importance of farmers of India, 23rd December is celebrated as Kisan Diwas or National Farmers’ Day annually.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was the 5th Prime Minister of India and the 5th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for a short span. He also presided over the Ministry of Home affairs during 24 March 1977 to 1 July 1978.

Born to a rural peasant family on 23 December, 1902, Charan Singh was from Noorpur of Hapur district, UP.

Chaudhary Charan Singh is frequently called as the ‘champion of India’s peasants’ by historian people alike because of all the reforms he made during his tenure.
