New Delhi, July 30, 2023: In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through Kerala, a five-year-old girl was subjected to a heinous act of sexual assault and strangulation to death by a man who had recently moved into their building in Ernakulam district.
The accused, identified as Asfaq Aslam, confessed to the heart-wrenching crime a day after dumping the young girl’s lifeless body in a sack on Friday. He was apprehended by the police on Friday night, but due to his intoxicated state, gathering information from him proved to be a painstaking task, leading to overnight search operations.
The daughter of a couple hailing from Bihar, the innocent child went missing on Friday evening after being spotted with the accused in a CCTV footage, raising immediate alarm. “In the CCTV footage, we found Asfaq Aslam, who is from Bihar, taking the child with him. We took him into custody at 9.30 pm. He was not in a conscious state so we waited for a while and then interrogated him,” stated Ernakulam (rural) SP Vivek Kumar.
As the sun rose on Saturday morning, the harrowing truth came to light as the accused confessed to his despicable act and revealed the location where he had abandoned the little girl’s body in a marshy area. The accused, who had recently moved into the same building as the victim’s family, attempted to conceal the crime by using garbage and sacks to cover the innocent child’s lifeless body.
The horrifying incident sparked a widespread search operation throughout the night, with concerned citizens and social media users coming together to aid in the effort to trace the missing girl. However, despite swift actions taken by the police, the tragedy unfolded at an alarming pace, leaving the community grieving and outraged.
