GIMS Forensic Medicine Department Hosts Educational Visit for JIMS Law Students

GREATER NOIDA News (14/11/2025): The Department of Forensic Medicine at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, organised an educational visit for students from the JIMS EMTC Department of Law on 14 November 2025. The initiative aimed to provide budding law professionals with first-hand exposure to forensic science, crime-scene protocols, and medico-legal procedures.
The session began with an insightful orientation by Dr. Amit Sharma, Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine. He welcomed the students and offered a comprehensive overview of the role of forensic medicine and forensic science in modern legal frameworks. Dr. Sharma also explained crucial medico-legal procedures, crime-scene investigation methods, and the importance of collecting and preserving trace evidence for legal proceedings.
Following the introductory lecture, students were taken on a guided tour of the Forensic Medicine Museum and Laboratory. During the museum walkthrough, they observed a range of medico-legal specimens including weapons, skeletal remains, toxicology samples, serology slides, photographic documentation, and anatomical models used for training and case studies. Students were also shown a recreated crime scene setup, helping them understand the practical aspects of evidence gathering and scene examination.

The hands-on exposure greatly impressed the visiting students, who expressed enthusiasm about applying this knowledge in their future legal careers. Many shared that the visit enhanced their understanding of how forensic science supports the justice system.
The visit was organised with the approval of Brig. (Dr.) Rakesh Gupta, Director of GIMS, and coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Amit Sharma. The laboratory tour was facilitated by Dr. Abhishek Yadav, while Dr. Kritika Sharma, Tutor in the Forensic Medicine Department, assisted with the museum demonstration.
The students were accompanied by Associate Professor Dr. Simmi Virk, Assistant Professor Vivek Trivedi, and Assistant Professor Amar Anshul from JIMS. The visit proved to be a valuable academic experience, strengthening the collaboration between medical and legal education and highlighting the role of forensic science in ensuring justice.
