GREATER NOIDA News (21 November 2025): The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) conducted an awareness-cum-training programme for postgraduate students and faculty members on the implementation of the E-Portfolio — a newly introduced postgraduate assessment system prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The initiative aimed to acquaint PG trainees and teaching faculty with the objectives, structure, and operational procedures of the digital assessment format, marking a transition from conventional examination practices to a holistic, competency-based evaluation model.
The session was led by Dr. Mamta Yadav, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, who delivered a comprehensive presentation explaining that the E-Portfolio is a structured, longitudinal digital record documenting a trainee’s clinical exposure, academic milestones, research work, procedural skills, feedback, and reflective learning. She emphasized that the platform serves as an integrated tool to monitor progress in knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes over the duration of the training.
The programme highlighted that E-Portfolios enhance transparency and accountability in PG training, while promoting structured mentorship, competency mapping, and ongoing formative assessment. Additionally, they form an essential component in institutional evaluation and accreditation by the NMC’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB).

Addressing the participants, GIMS Director Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta stressed the importance of adopting modern, technology-enabled methods of evaluation in line with the NMC-CBME curriculum guidelines.
The programme was attended by Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, CMS and Professor, Department of Medicine; Dr. Rambha Pathak, Dean, GIMS; Dr. Ekta Arora, Head, Department of Pharmacology; Dr. Mani Bharti, along with faculty members from multiple departments and resident doctors.
Reaffirming its commitment to innovation in medical education, GIMS stated that it continues to encourage competency-based and holistic learning approaches and will provide full support to faculty and trainees in effectively implementing the E-Portfolio system in accordance with national standards.
