New Delhi, 29 September 2022: The Gorkela Law Office celebrated the 2nd Law Intern’s Day on 27 September in New Delhi.
The event began with the welcoming ceremony followed by Advocate Shashi Kiran clarifying the internship procedure and opportunities in law for the students and interns present in the gathering.
Talking about the need to recognise interns for their work, Dr Manoj Gorkela, Dy. Adv. General stated that irrespective of their background, interns work throughout the day. “In my office, I have seen the interns do the work of one year in just a month. That is what encouraged us to celebrate this day,” he said, adding, “Whether it is the supreme court judges, high court judges, or district court judges, interns are needed everywhere. But the interns are not recognised. So we decided in 2021, under the guidance of Pradeep Rai and Dr Rupinder Singh Suri, additional solicitor general, we had celebrated the first interns’ day in Maharashtra Sadan.”
“We not only just felicitate the best intern in the Gorkela office but we consider any intern that is recommended to us for the award. Today, we will be honoring 12 to 16 law interns. While, in the coming year, we will be felicitating over 100 interns,” he added.
While K Venugopal, senior advocate, believed that an internship is an extremely important bridge between studying and practicing as a lawyer. “I had got my first job in an international law firm after I did my masters it was then I realise that nothing that I had studied during my college had prepared me for the actual practice. When you sit down and try to apply what you learned in law school to the brief that is in front of you, nothing prepares you for the kind of detail that you need to go into and the kind of research that you need to do to understand how lawyers actually practice law and that is what internship have taught you today,” he said.
“Internships I believe are important and are an extremely important part of the legal studies curriculum encouraged by the bar councils,” he added while congratulating the interns who were felicitated at the event.
The event was graced in the presence of K. Venugopal, senior advocate, Dr G V Rao, senior advocate, Dr Manoj Gorkela, Dy. Adv. General, Murari Tiwari, Chairman, Bar Council of Delhi, Pradeep Rai, Vice President, SCBA, Amar Nath Saini, Supreme court Advocate, Sandeep Sharma, Advocate, Delhi high court among other eminent legal personalities.
