Govt brings Ordinance to deal with incidents of assault on doctors and medical staff, offence to be non-bailable

Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 amended to better protect health fraternity.

Provision of 6 months to 7 years if anyone found guilty of attack on doctors.

Fine of Rs 1 lakh to 5 lakh also proposed

Ordinance proposes completion of investigation within a month and decision in a year’s time.

Compensation of twice the damage caused in attack on doctors/medical personnel to be recovered from offender.
