Grand Organization of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s biopic at Delhi’s Red Fort!

New Delhi: Nearly 338 years ago, Maratha warrior king Shivaji Bhonsle, better know as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, died after ill with fever and dysentery. Known for his military might and progressive rule, Shivaji’s Maratha navy fought several foreign conquerors, including the Mughals.

Remembering Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj – the great Maratha warrior and a valiant king on his 338th death anniversary, a grand play is being organized at Delhi’s Red Fort. The play is being staged from April 6 -10 and tickets for the same can be booked free of cost through Book My Show.

The use of an elephant, named Lakshmi was suppose to be a part of the play but the forest department rejected organisers demand fearing about the safety of the audience including VIPs.

Though The Department of Wildlife allowed organisers to hire horses and camels from Delhi and to use them in the play.

The play tilted Raja Shiv Chatrapati is originally a Marathi play and has been staged many times across the world. The play was first staged in 1985. Huge sets and props, live camels, horses and elephants are the main attraction of the play. The play is to be staged in Hindi in the Red Fort under the guidance of Ministry of Culture. The play is written by historian, Shiv Shahir Babasaheb Purandare. Babasaheb met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2017 to seek permission for holding the play in Delhi.

The play is staged in a way to ensure that the life and times of Chatrapati Shivaji can be presented for the youth of this country and make them understand how the brave Shivaji dreamt of building a nation and how he worked towards it.
