Building waste plant for #Gurgaon
GURGAON: After much delay, Gurgaon will finally get its own construction and demolition waste treatment plant to put an end to the haphazard dumping of construction debris in and around the city. The MCG on Wednesday awarded the contract for construction of a C&D waste processing plant, to come up in Begumpur Khatola, to IL&FS Environment Limited. The plant will be built on a public-private-partnership (PPP) model and the contractor will run the waste plant for 20 years.
According to officials, around 300 tonnes of waste will be processed at the plant everyday. The company has been asked to submit a detailed project implementation and operation plan within 90 days from the date of issue of the contract. MCG`s chief engineer R K Singhla told TOI that the proposal was envisaged by MCG near Kachara Chowk on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road two years ago, and got stalled after the National Green Tribunal put a stay on the project citing possible spread of environmental pollution.
