New Delhi (29/06/2022): The Export Promotion Council of Handicrafts (EPCH) organized its 23rd Handicrafts Export Awards on June 28, 2022, in New Delhi. The awards honor the exporters who have made significant contributions to the development and exports of handicrafts from the country. It aims to create a sense of healthy competition amongst exporters and encourage wholesome competition through the institution of such prestigious awards.

Mr. D. P. Singh, the Secretary of the Ministry of Textiles addressed the crowd and congratulated the awardees. He said that despite the challenging Covid-19 pandemic, the handicrafts sector has seen an uprise in exports. “We are very proud of our handicrafts,” Mr. Singh said. “The livelihood of around 70 lakh people in India is directly or indirectly connected to the handicrafts industry,” he said. “The handicrafts are our heritage and it is our responsibility to carry on this legacy.”

“Our Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi always gifts handicraft products to international dignitaries,” Mr. Singh said with pride. “The promotion of the art and talent of these artisans are possible because of exporters,” he said. “But the export community should also make sure that the artisans of these handicrafts are being benefited by export promotions,” he added. “If the artisans are benefited by the handicraft export promotion, then these awards will become much more significant,” he said and encouraged the exporters to always do their best to aid and benefit the artisans.
