New Delhi, July 29, 2023: Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat. The downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, led to severe waterlogging and disruptions in traffic across several areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated heavy to very heavy rain in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi until July 29. The current spell of rainfall is expected to continue, impacting daily life and travel in the region.

The city witnessed 15 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with the Yamuna River still flowing above the danger mark at 205.36 meters. The weather department issued a yellow alert for Delhi, indicating the possibility of light to moderate rain and a generally cloudy sky.

On Friday, several parts of Delhi received light to moderate rainfall, providing some relief from the summer heat. The maximum temperature settled at 34.3 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, while the minimum temperature recorded was 26.6 degrees Celsius.

The weather department had previously predicted continued rainfall for Saturday, which was realized as various areas in Delhi, including Civil Lines, Laxmi Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Jasola, and Okhla, received rainfall and experienced overcast skies.

As the monsoon continues its course, residents of Delhi-NCR are advised to stay cautious and be prepared for further rain and possible waterlogging in low-lying areas. The authorities are working to manage the situation, but citizens are encouraged to take necessary precautions during this wet weather.
