GHAZIABAD: The New Link Road connecting NH-24 with NH-58 in Ghaziabad was on Tuesday opened for cars and two-wheelers on one of the two carriageways. The 3.6km-long, six-lane road starts at Mahamaya Stadium and ends at the NH-24 bypass.

The greenfield project developed at a total cost of Rs 160 crore, was opened to the public by Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) vice-chairman Vijay Yadav along with SSP Deepak Kumar during a ceremony held at the Meerut Road T-point.

The road runs over a railway bridge (ROB) that is connected on either side by two approach roads emanating from each highway.

“The other side of the road, which will enable vehicles to travel from NH-24 to NH-58, will be opened to the public on the intervening night of November 5 and 6. Once the pending minor works are done, both sides of the carraigeway will be open to traffic,” Yadav told TOI.

At present, installation of safety devices, streetlights and signage on the ROB are being completed.
The project was conceived by the GDA to enable commuters to avoid the circuitous route between NH-58 and NH-24 by travelling through the Mohan Nagar T-point, the Kanawani bypass through Indirapuram or through old Ghaziabad.
Initially, it was to be completed by December 2015, but construction came to a standstill owing to the delay in work on the ROB.

According to GDA officials, the commissioning of the road will now enable them to swiftly complete pending work on the Hindon Elevated Road at the point where it enters the Kanawani bypass road.

Traffic diversions will be put in place for the levated road construction work. Officials said after both sides of the link road are opened to all vehicles, the Kanawani bypass road will be closed for around 15 hours daily.
This will enable GDA to quickly finish pending work on the Hindon Elevated Road in Vasundhara.
