New Delhi (India), March 30, 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of putting pressure on him to frame Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a fake encounter case in Gujarat during the Congress-led UPA government.
He made these comments during a News 18 Rising India program, where he responded to allegations of the Modi government misusing central agencies to target political opponents. Shah also criticized Rahul Gandhi for not appealing his conviction in a criminal defamation case but instead trying to blame Prime Minister Modi for his fate.
He said that “the sentence could be stayed if the court decided, but the conviction couldn’t be stayed.” Shah also said that Veer Savarkar was the only freedom fighter sentenced to two life terms in the Andaman prison and that such language should not have been used against him.
Shah predicted that Modi would again become the prime minister with a larger majority in the 2024 general election and said that the BJP would win more seats in 2024 than in 2019. He also claimed that the BJP would comfortably cross the halfway mark and form a government with a clear majority in the upcoming Karnataka elections.
