IIT-DELHI ROAD SAFETY HALF MARATHON ON SUNDAY MAY 14

GARIMA BHATNAGAR, JOINT COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, TRAFFIC DELHI AND MR. SAURABH AGARWAL, WINNER, IRON MAN( THE TOUGHEST CHALLENGE FOR ATHLETES IN THE WORLD), 2014 WILL BE FLAGGING OFF THE RUN.

New Delhi May 12, 2016 Students of Indian Institute of Technology (iIT), Delhi under it’s ‘INDIAN ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN (IRSC), in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO) , India and Delhi Traffic Police is organising “Run for cause” a half (5/10 km) Marathon Race under the Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week, on Sunday , May 14th 2017 from 6 am in morning. This is first of its kind initiative being taken by IIT Delhi .

Garima Bhatnagar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic Delhi and Mr. Saurabh Agarwal, Winner, Iron Man( the toughest challenge for athletes in the world), 2014 will be flagging off the run. The conclusion of the run will be followed by prize distribution of the Delhi wide competitions that were held by Indian Road Safety Campaign for school students for the purpose of promoting road safety awareness among students.

“The purpose of the same is to promote the spirit of Road safety among the people with the focus on speed. Speed contributes to around one-third of all fatal road traffic crashes in high-income countries, and up to half in low- and middle-income countries. Various nations world wide successfully reducing road traffic deaths have done so by prioritizing safety when managing speed. The Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week seeks to increase understanding of the dangers of speed and generate action on measures to address speed, thereby saving lives on the roads.” Said Mr Amar Srivastva, co-founder , INDIAN ROAD SAFETY CAMPAIGN (IRSC

Run4 cause is the culmination of the 50 + events that are being conducted from 8th may to 14th of may all over the Delhi by Indian Road safety campaign in collaboration with WHO Country Office for India and Delhi traffic Police.

The race will be attended by large number of school students, college students, professional runners, faculty and general public who would come together to participate in the Run4Cause and promote the spirit of road safety in the people.
