IMA appeals to the government regarding recent demonetization

While welcoming the steps taken by the Government to curb financial mal-practices, IMA has requested the Government to allow private healthcare sector also to accept discontinued currency notes of the denominations of Rs.500 and Rs. 1,000

New Delhi, Nov 10, 2016: Indian Medical Association (IMA) is the largest professional voluntary organization of modern medicine doctors pan India and across the globe, having a membership of nearly 2,70,000 doctors spread over 30 State Branches and 1700 Local branches in almost all the districts of India.

The Indian Medical Association wholeheartedly welcomes the steps of the Government to control the menace of illegal use of Indian currency by discontinuing the currency notes of the denominations of Rs. 500=00 and Rs. 1,000.

For healthcare delivery, the private healthcare sectors have the largest outreach in the entire country. Private healthcare sector provides more than 80% of the healthcare services in the entire country.

Requesting the government, Dr. K.K Aggarwal, President Elect IMA and President HCFI, added; “IMA requests that the private healthcare sector consisting of private practitioners and private hospitals and nursing homes who cater to more than 80% of the healthcare delivery needs of the country be also allowed to accept these notes till the Government’s stipulated period as allowed to the Government healthcare machinery.”

This will ultimately be beneficial for the general public if such a request is kindly granted.

“Barring the private healthcare delivery system from accepting the discontinued currency notes, would adversely effect the health of the Indian population and would hamper the healthcare delivery to the Indian population which is one of the most important agendas of our Government”, added Dr. K.K Aggarwal.

Therefore, the IMA has humbly requested the government to allow the private healthcare delivery sectors also to accept the discontinued currency notes till November 11, 2016 as is done by the public sector healthcare institutions.
