Ottawa (Canada), 10th June 2023: The Government of Canada has announced their decision to halt the deportation of 700 Indian students at the request of Aam Aadmi Party MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, who is also the International President of the World Punjabi Organisation.

After increasing calls to look into the issue, the government locked the decision from the Indian High Commission.

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal wrote letters to Indian High Commissioner to Canada Sanjay Kumar Verma and Canadian High Commissioner to India Cameron Mackay on Friday, requesting that the 700 students facing deportation from Canada be resolved.

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal had urged that the Centre resolve the problem of 700 Indian students, predominantly Punjabis, who are caught up in visa fraud in Canada and face deportation.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, he demanded that students not be deported and be provided work permits based on their visas.

He also asked Home Minister Amit Shah to work with the Punjab government to penalise travel agencies that defrauded students.
