South Africa’s defeat came as a shock, especially after they had defeated India in a super 12 match last Sunday.
Batting first, Netherlands had put up a score of 158 on board with the help of Tom Cooper’s 19-ball 35 and Colin Ackermann’s 26-ball 41 not out.
While chasing the target, South Africa kept losing wickets and were restricted to 145 for 8 by a spirited Netherlands team.
India will finish on top of Group 2 and will meet England in the semi-final if they beat Zimbabwe in their final Super 12 match.
