Greater Noida (08 August 2025): In a vibrant celebration of National Handloom Day, the India Expo Mart Limited (IEML), in collaboration with the Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), launched a exhibition and skill development initiative aimed at empowering rural artisans and weavers across India. The event, held at the India Expo Mart, is part of IEML’s broader vision to foster sustainable growth, market access, and digital inclusion for India’s traditional craft sector.
The exhibition underscores the significance of India’s handloom and handicraft heritage, not only by honoring the artisans who keep these traditions alive but also by equipping them with modern tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in today’s competitive and digital-first marketplace.
Ministers and Celebrities Join the Movement
Union Minister of Textiles Giriraj Singh and acclaimed film actress Kangana Ranaut visited the Handloom Heritage Pavilion during the exhibition. They were given an extensive tour by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Chairman of India Expo Mart. Both dignitaries showed deep interest in understanding the intricacies of the handloom sector — from raw material sourcing to product design, marketing strategies, and export potential.
A Platform for Learning and Market Exposure
In an exclusive interaction with Ten News Network, Harbinder Singh, Project Head at India Expo Mart, elaborated on the objectives of the initiative. This program has been designed as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. Under this initiative, we focus on capacity building by teaching artisans about design intervention, current market trends, and how to evolve traditional products for contemporary uses. We want them to understand the demand of the modern customer and develop products accordingly. This transformation is crucial if we want to see our artisans thrive. The program includes modules on product development, trend analysis, digital photography, e-commerce onboarding, and export orientation. The entire initiative was conceptualized under the guidance of our Chairman, Dr. Rakesh Kumar.
Products Curated from Across India
Adding further depth to the initiative, Jitin Prashar, Senior Vice President of Expo Bazar, shared insights into how the celebration is directly benefiting artisans, For this year’s Handloom Day, we’ve curated handcrafted products from over 100 artisans hailing from diverse clusters such as Banaras, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Moradabad, and Saharanpur. We have not only exhibited their products physically here at the India Expo Mart, but also digitized them with professional photography and uploaded them on our e-commerce platform. This allows international buyers and Indian consumers to purchase these unique crafts directly online. The idea is to bring traditional art to a modern global platform, enabling artisans to reach wider audiences. India Expo Mart is emerging as an ideal destination for such cultural commerce.
Handholding Artisans into the Future
Speaking about the broader goals of the initiative, Amla Srivastava, Assistant Director and Head Designer at EPCH, emphasized the program’s role in transforming artisans’ design thinking, The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), along with India Expo Mart, has developed this Nurture Program to revamp traditional product designs and align them with current market demands. Under the visionary leadership of Chairman Dr. Rakesh Kumar, we are working to help artisans understand how to modernize their creations while preserving their core cultural essence. Our focus is on product redesign, trend integration, and market adaptability. This initiative is not just about creating products — it’s about creating viable livelihoods and entrepreneurial paths for our craftspeople.
Celebrating Culture with Empowerment
The event represents a holistic model of cultural celebration and economic empowerment, ensuring that India’s age-old handloom and handicraft traditions are preserved, promoted, and adapted for modern markets. Through initiatives like these, the India Expo Mart is redefining how artisans engage with commerce — transforming them from mere producers to market-savvy entrepreneurs.
The exhibition continues with ongoing workshops, buyer-seller meets, live demonstrations, and cultural performances. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Pavilion, meet the artisans, and support the rich heritage of Indian handlooms.
