New Delhi (India), 17th May 2023: Manish Chopra, who headed Facebook parent Meta’s Partnerships Operations in India, has opted to leave the firm after four and a half years with the company. This is the fourth notable departure from Meta India in the last year.
Previous departures that happened in November 2022, included former India CEO Ajit Mohan and public policy chief Rajiv Aggarwal. During the same time period, WhatsApp India CEO Abhijit Bose left the firm.
Following their exits, Mohan and Aggarwal joined Snap and Samsung, respectively, while Bose announced plans to launch a new firm.
Following Ajit Mohan’s resignation, Manish Chopra served as interim leader for two months until January 1, 2023, when Sandhya Devanathan took over as Meta’s India director.
Chopra announced his leave on LinkedIn the professional social networking platform, noting that he would be working in the company during the transition process over the next two weeks.
He wrote in his post, “Full of gratitude, pride and impact – moving on from Meta. It’s been 4.5 years of an incredible journey leading Meta Partnerships in India! I am stepping down from my role at Meta and will help with the transition over the next few weeks.”
Concluding his message he wrote, “ To my team, it’s been my privilege to know you and learn from you. More power to you, always!…And so for me, I am now looking forward to a new phase in my professional life. I will share more in due course.”
Chopra’s decision to leave Meta comes at an important moment, as it coincides with the company’s deployment of cost-cutting measures, which includes the global layoff of 21,000 people.
Manish Chopra came to Meta after serving as the co-founder and CEO of the app-only deals platform Little, which was bought by Paytm in 2017. Chopra co-founded the online clothing business Zovi in addition to his entrepreneurial accomplishments.
Furthermore, he had a nine-year employment at Microsoft, where he held several jobs, and also had a two-year stay at Oracle where he obtained tremendous experience.
