India is One, Maj. Gen. B.D. Wadhwa (Retd.) Speaks on Operation Sindoor and the Message of National Strength
TEN NEWS NETWORK
Greater Noida (9 May 2025): In the wake of the Indian Army’s recent high-impact offensive, ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Ten News sat down with Major General B.D. Wadhwa (Retd.), AVSM, a distinguished veteran of the Indian Army and the Pro-Chancellor of IILM University, Greater Noida. In an in-depth and passionate conversation, General Wadhwa shed light on his military experiences, the significance of the operation, and the way forward for both the armed forces and the citizens of India.
A Lifetime of Service to the Nation
Major General B.D. Wadhwa served in the Indian Army for 38 years before retiring in November 2006. He was honored with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India on January 26, 2006, for his exceptional service. With three Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation Technology, and Business Administration, he has been a part of IILM since March 2007, holding multiple leadership roles in management, engineering, and international relations.
Having served in sensitive regions like Jammu and Kashmir, Maj. Gen. Wadhwa shared his personal experiences of operating under volatile conditions. I was posted in Jammu and Kashmir twice—once as a young Captain and later as a Lieutenant Colonel. Both times were incredibly challenging, not only operationally but personally as well. During my second tenure, my wife and daughter joined me in the forward areas. It was not easy, but we took it as a challenge and a learning experience, he recalled.
Operation Sindoor: A Defining Moment
The Indian Army’s recently executed ‘Operation Sindoor’—a calculated retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack—has sent a powerful message domestically and globally. General Wadhwa expressed deep satisfaction at the swift and strategic military action.
When the Pahalgam attack happened, it shook the conscience of the entire nation. It was not just a tragedy for any one community—it was a blow to all Indians. The Army’s response through Operation Sindoor, which successfully neutralized nine major terrorist camps in one decisive strike, demonstrated our military strength and national resolve, he said.
He further emphasized, This operation wasn’t just a tactical success; it was a signal to the world that India will no longer tolerate terror. We are no longer a passive nation—we are capable, ready, and determined. If necessary, Sindoor 2 and Sindoor 3 are already in the pipeline.
The Risk of Escalation and Civilian Targeting
When asked about the possibility of future Pakistani retaliation, Maj. Gen. Wadhwa did not mince words. Pakistan has suffered humiliation. Such blows often trigger retaliation, and we’re already witnessing increased firing along the border. While we targeted only terrorist camps, Pakistan doesn’t have such clear military targets in India. If they choose to strike civilian infrastructure or population centers, they should be prepared for severe consequences. We will respond with greater force, he warned.
Saluting Women in Uniform: A Symbolic Press Briefing
Operation Sindoor was also notable for the faces representing it. Two women officers—Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh—led the press briefing, sending a strong message about gender parity in the armed forces.
Both officers are highly capable and well-respected professionals, said Gen. Wadhwa. Colonel Qureshi comes from a military family and has served with distinction in UN peacekeeping missions. She is a part of strategic planning teams and likely contributed significantly to Operation Sindoor. Wing Commander Singh, a skilled Air Force pilot, has flown in challenging sectors and would have provided crucial inputs as well. Their presence wasn’t symbolic—it was earned.
He dismissed any notion that their selection was politically motivated. The Indian Army doesn’t operate on the basis of religion or gender. I’ve served under Muslim officers, and some of the best troops I’ve commanded were from diverse backgrounds. India’s strength lies in its unity, not its divisions.
Message to Soldiers: Stay United and Fearless
Addressing the men and women in uniform, Gen. Wadhwa urged them to stay resilient. Remain strong, focused, and united. Train relentlessly and maintain your fearlessness. That spirit is what sends a message to our adversaries—India will not be shaken.
A Call to Citizens: Be Proud, Stay United
To the citizens of India, he offered words of encouragement and patriotism. You’ve already shown solidarity. The Prime Minister made it clear after Pahalgam that silence was not an option. The very name ‘Operation Sindoor’ evokes pride and emotion across communities. India stands united—regardless of religion or background. Our economic growth and diplomatic stature are rising, and the world is beginning to take notice.
