New Delhi (27/04/2022): India is the greatest country in the world to do journalism as everyday something new is happening here, said Rajdeep Sardesai on Wednesday.

Sardesai was speaking at exchange 4 media’s ’40 under 40′, an event which honoured media personnel for outstanding English journalism across different mediums.

He stated that passion of journalism is very important in today’s time. The great joy of the profession is that there is no fixed time, it is not a 9 to 5 job. “Unless you are passionate about news gathering and recognize the duties and responsibilities that comes with the profession, you might as well do something else, ” he said.

When asked about the journalists getting charged with sedition, he answered that journalists are charged with sedition as the politicians have become intolerant. There was a time when journalists were respected, now they are feared and it is tragic.

He said that in his view, a legal notice and trolling indicates that they are able to get under the skin of people and it is good. “They are politicians and it is their job to spread propaganda while it is the job of the journalist to cut through that propaganda and expose it.”

“Journalism, in the present times, has been negatively impacted by external forces. TRP pressures lead to toxic debates on tv where videos are being pushed to digital media to go viral while newspapers are under increasing revenue pressure,” Sardesai added.

Towards the end, he mentioned that it is a life lesson for every journalist that they should work like every day is a new day.
