New Delhi, 21 July 2022: On Thursday, NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu emerged victorious in the presidential elections 2022, defeating her opponent Yashwant Sinha by a 50% margin.
Several political leaders took it to social media to appreciate and extend their wishes to the newly elected president Droupadi Murmu.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Droupadi Murmu stating, “India scripts history. At a time when 1.3 billion Indians are marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a daughter of India hailing from a tribal community born in a remote part of eastern India has been elected our President! Congratulations to Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji on this feat.”
“Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji’s life, her early struggles, her rich service and her exemplary success motivates each and every Indian. She has emerged as a ray of hope for our citizens, especially the poor, marginalised and the downtrodden,” he added.
The outgoing president Ram Nath Kovind wrote, “Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Smt. Droupadi Murmu on being elected as the 15th President of India.”
The presidential candidate of the opposition, Yashwant Sinha, also extended his wishes to the new President, “I join my fellow citizens in congratulating Smt Droupadi Murmu on her victory in the Presidential Election 2022. India hopes that as the 15th President of the Republic she functions as the Custodian of the Constitution without fear or favour.”
“Despite the outcome of the election. I believe it has benefited Indian democracy in two ways, First it brought most Opposition parties on a common platform. This is indeed the need of the hour, and I earnestly appeal to them to continue – indeed, further- strengthen opposition unity beyond the Presidential Election. It must be equally evident in the election of the vice president,” he added.
Rahul Gandhi, Senior Congress leader also congratulated the New President, “Congratulations and best wishes to Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji on being elected as the 15th President of India.”
Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu, in his message, said, “Heartiest congratulations to Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji on being elected as the 15th President of India! Her wide experience in public life, spirit of selfless service and deep understanding of people’s issues will greatly benefit the nation. My best wishes for a successful tenure!”
Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry also extended his regards, “ये भारत की जीत है I India gets its first tribal woman President. Droupadi Murmu ji’s historic win represents the vibrancy of our democracy. It is an unmatched tribute to grassroot service & people’s power. Antyodaya gets a pride of place at Rashtrapati Bhavan.”
The education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan linked Murmu’s victory to India’s victory. He said, “Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji represents the hope and promise of an unstoppable India and also the inherent strengths of our vibrant democracy. Her victory today is a victory of every Indian, especially for women, tribals and our disadvantaged citizens.”
Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture also took it to social media to congratulate the new president, “Heartiest Congratulations to Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji on being elected as the 15th President of India. Murmu Ji’s victory is a befitting tribute to all our tribal freedom fighters like Tantia Bhil, Birsa Munda, Bhima Nayak, Veer Surendra Sai & many others who fought for India’s freedom.”
