Was intimidated by Amit Trivedi: Kanika Kapoor
New Delhi, May 27 (PTI) Kanika Kapoor could not believe her luck when she got a call from music director Amit Trivedi to record a song for “Udta Punjab” and the singer says she was nervous before the recording.
The “Baby Doll” hitmaker says it was a wish come true to work with Trivedi as she admires his work a lot.
“When I got a call from him, I was a bit surprised. When I went to see him, I was nervous and a little intimidated… I am new in the industry and I have been fan of him but he made me very comfortable. He explained the whole script and we just recorded the song the same day,” Kanika told PTI.
The 38-year-old singer said she was not sure the “Lootera” music director would use her voice.
“I called him and said, ‘Sir, I will come back and do a proper recording and this was just the scratch.’ He told me not to worry.
“I thought he did not want to use my voice. A few days later I called him and said, ‘Sir, you are using my voice, right?’ He said, ‘We loved it! It’s very raw and that’s what I like about your voice.'”
Kanika is excited to have lent her voice for actress Alia Bhatt in the Abhishek Chaubey-directed crime thriller, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor and Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh.
“It’s amazing that my song is featuring on Alia. I was thrilled when I was told the song would be on her. I am very fond of her. She is cute. I am excited for everyone to see how it looks.”
Talking about the song, Kanika said it is “very heavy, raw grungy.”
Besides “Udta Punjab”, the singer has recorded a sad romantic number for Randeep Hooda-Kajal Aggarwal starrer “Do Lafzon Ki Kahani”, titled, “Ankhiyan”.
Kanika is particularly excited about the track as it has a classical touch.
She had earlier said she wants to do something classical this year and the “Lovely” hitmaker feels “Ankhiyaan” is the perfect start in this direction.
“We have begun in that space with ‘Ankhiyan’. I have got a huge response for that. It is the first time I have done a painful rendition…,” Kanika said.
