Mumbai (India), 13th April 2023: Karishma Kapoor recently opened up about her work in the upcoming series, which is going to be the sole Indian programme on the Berlin Series Market Selects platform.
Karisma Kapoor’s noir thriller “Brown,” would be extremely exciting and will also showcase her star power. One of India’s greatest cinema actresses in the 1990s and the early 2000s, Kapoor took a break from acting to spend more time with her young family. In 2020, she returned with the parenting-focused series “Mentalhood” for streamer ALTBalaji. Her first acting role since then would be in “Brown”.
The 2016 Abheek Barua novel “City of Death” served as the inspiration for the TV show. It was adapted by Digvijay Singh, Sunayana Kumari, and Mayukh Ghosh, and it was headed by Abhinay Deo.
It centres on Rita Brown (Kapoor), an experienced investigator in the Kolkata police department who is a recovering alcoholic and a member of the city’s small but powerful Anglo-Indian minority. Rita is assigned to investigate the murder of a young woman from a prominent family.
Kapoor in conversation with Variety stated, “I’ve had a long career, I’ve been there, done that, done a variety of roles, but when I read the character Rita Brown, I just felt it, because she was so different, so diverse — she was flawed, but human, super smart, super intelligent, and you can literally see the growth of this woman.”
She further added, “For me, as an actress to be stripped down of all the glamor and the glitz, that was extremely interesting for me.”
Kapoor commented on the relatability of her character and said, “Many people around the world will identify with her, she’s beat up, she’s been through so much, people have knocked her out. And that’s what happens in normal life.”
In addition to being makeup-free to give her character a worn-out appearance, Kapoor also honed her acting skills using method acting techniques. In order to wake up with a hangover, Kapoor, who doesn’t drink much in real life, would skip dinner, have a couple drinks and then pass asleep.
She learnt how to roll cigarettes while not smoking. The actor also received language coaching from a native Bengali speaker to master a few words of Bengali and English with an Anglo-Indian accent.
Apart from Kapoor the cast also includes veteran actor Helen making her comeback, Soni Razdan, Surya Sharma and K.K. Raina.
