High Commission of India hosted established and emerging designers from India who are in London and participated in London Fashion Week.
These designers participated in Innovation X: A Portrait of India event organised by London School of Trends, and INIFD and Fashion Scout Portrait of India is an experiential event celebrating India’s growing fashion industry and the 70th year of the country’s independence. This was the first time in history of international fashion weeks that a day is being dedicated to celebrate the work of Indian designers and allowing the upcoming Indian designers talent to be showcased exclusively.
Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Dinesh K. Patnaik welcomed the young and established designers to India House and exhorted them to utilise India’s enormous traditional design heritage to make a lasting impact on the global fashion scene. He also spoke of the validity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 5-F formula – ‘Farm to Fibre, Fibre to Fabric, Fabric to Fashion and Fashion to Foreign’. He also said that in the year when are celebrating India-UK year of culture, India’s participation on this big scale at London Fashion Week assumes special significance.
Mr. Adrian Mott, Course Director LST London, Mr. Martyn Roberts, Fashion Scout London and Mr. Anil Khosla, CEO, INIFD were also present at the event.
