Lufthansa Pilot Strikes Leaves 700 Passengers Stranded at Delhi Airport

New Delhi, 2nd September 2022: Lufthansa, a German Carrier has today cancelled about 800 passengers and cargo flights globally due to a one-day pilot strike for salary hikes, leaving 1,30,000 passengers stranded globally while 700 travellers have been affected at the Delhi Airport.

The pilot union, Vereinigung Cockpit had demanded a 5.5% salary hike for over 5000 pilots and automatic inflation compensation, however, the negotiation with the airline carrier had failed.

As a result, Lufthansa airline passengers were left stranded and are also demanding a refund of their flight fares.

While the airport’s Delhi police and CISF calmed the passengers and told them that the flight business would make other arrangements.

Several videos have gone viral on social media showcasing the passengers urging and shouting at the government and the airport for a refund and help.

“All Lufthansa flights canceled. Sir, please help us. We are students, senior citizens and so many people stranded here in Indira Gandhi Aiport, Terminal 3. We are stuck here. The staff has vanished. No food, no accommodation, no flight,” stated a passenger.

After further investigation, it was discovered that two Lufthansa Airlines overseas flights had been cancelled. The passengers were demanding a refund of their money or other arrangements be made for their relatives who were inside the terminal building.

“They were furious when they learned that the planes had been canceled without any prior notice. The situation was managed by the staff of the IGI airport and members of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The crowd quickly split up. The airline team is working to make other arrangements for the customers,” said DCP (IGI Airport) Tanu Sharma
