Major Accident Averted in Delhi Metro, Life Saved Thanks to Passengers’ Timely Help
New Delhi, April 25, 2025 — A major tragedy was narrowly averted in the Delhi Metro on Friday when a passenger, Bhagwat Prasad Sharma, suffered a serious fall after his leg got stuck between the closing metro doors at Yamuna Bank station.
Sharma had boarded a metro from Barakhamba, intending to travel to Noida Botanical Garden. However, by mistake, he boarded a train going towards Vaishali. Realizing the error, he got off at Yamuna Bank station to change trains. While trying to exit the train, he was slightly late and got caught between the closing doors.
Though he managed to step outside the train, one of his legs got trapped in the door. The powerful impact from the automatic shutters knocked him down violently onto the platform. He sustained serious injuries to his knee, elbow, and hip and was in intense pain.
At that moment, a woman accompanied by her two daughters rushed to his aid. They quickly had the metro doors opened to free his leg, helped him sit in a safe spot, gave him water, and stayed by his side until the metro’s medical team arrived. They even applied pressure to his injuries to ease the pain.
Deeply moved by their compassion, Sharma expressed his heartfelt gratitude through Facebook. “I will never forget their kindness. I want to touch their feet and thank them. Their blessings saved my life,” he wrote.
He also extended his thanks to the metro medical team and another gentleman who assisted during the incident.
This event not only raises concerns about safety protocols in the Delhi Metro system but also highlights the enduring spirit of humanity—where strangers go out of their way to help someone in need.
