Man Attempts Self-Harm in Devotion to Lord Shiva, Hospitalized in Serious Condition

Lalitpur, August 17, 2023: In a shocking incident, a thirty-year-old man identified as Deepak Kushwaha from Raghunathpura, Lalitpur, attempted self-harm at a Shiva temple early on Tuesday morning. He utilized an electrical saw to inflict a severe injury to his neck, resulting in his admission to Jhansi Medical College in a critical condition.

Deepak’s act of self-harm was witnessed by neighbors who were awakened by his cries of pain. Local authorities were alerted promptly, and he was rushed to the district hospital before being transferred to Jhansi Medical College for specialized care.

According to Deepak’s father, Palturam, his son had exhibited a deep devotion to Lord Shiva for some time. Deepak maintained a dedicated notebook where he documented his thoughts and feelings about Shiva, even expressing an intention to offer his own head to the deity.

Lalitpur Circle Officer Abhay Narayan Rai stated, “Deepak is currently receiving medical treatment, and once his condition stabilizes, we will conduct an inquiry to ascertain if any external factors influenced his decision.”

The incident highlights the extent to which religious fervor can drive individuals to extreme actions. The local community and authorities are concerned about the well-being of Deepak and are taking steps to understand the underlying motivations behind his drastic act.
