New Delhi News (19 November, 2025): At the PRISM–FIMC 2025 conference in New Delhi, former IIM Bangalore Director and distinguished academician Professor KRS Murthy, who received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, shared heartfelt reflections and powerful insights during an exclusive conversation with Ten News.
Prof. Murthy began by dedicating the honour to India’s legendary teachers. “I want to dedicate this award to all the great teachers of India, especially Dr. Pritam Singh,” he said, recalling his deep personal and professional bond with the renowned management guru. He described Dr. Singh not merely as a leader but as a “great teacher” who built personal rapport, touched lives with affection and warmth, and shaped institutions through human connection. “He remembered every equation he shared, every contribution he made — that is the kind of teacher he was,” he added.
On the pressing global challenges managers face today, Prof. Murthy stressed the need for deeper awareness and adaptability. He pointed to the rapidly shifting geopolitical environment, the relentless advance of technology, and the worldwide debate on sustainability. “We live in a very different world today. Technology has been transforming things for a long time, geopolitics is constantly reshaping priorities, and sustainability is debated everywhere — yet everyone has their own perspective. Nobody wants to see the other side,” he remarked.
Reflecting on India’s educational landscape, he acknowledged the remarkable expansion of IIMs between 2012 and 2025. Calling it a “tremendous history unfolding in Indian education,” he echoed AICTE Chairman Dr. T. G. Sitharam’s view that the wave of growth must continue. “Our population and our demand are immense. There is still much more that needs to come,” he said.
Speaking on the idea of creating an “Indian Management Service,” Prof. Murthy noted that unlike Indian Engineering or Information Services, management is not a narrow specialization. “Management is very unspecialised — it applies to all domains. It is like salt; every dish needs it,” he explained. He shared how IIM Bangalore itself was founded with the vision of serving the public sector, with programs in agriculture, education, transportation and health. “Even today, we offer MBA in Health, MBA in Public Services — because management must serve every sector,” he added.
Prof. Murthy’s candid reflections, grounded in experience and foresight, offered a compelling message for India’s next generation of leaders: embrace multiple perspectives, understand global complexities and anchor leadership in values taught by great teachers like Dr. Pritam Singh.
