Ten News spoke with Director Pawan Naidu on life and time of Meena Kumari. Navratan Foundation President Ashok Shrivastava also shared his views on the Meena Kumari event with us.
Here are the excerpts of the interview:
TN: From where did you get inspiration for directing a beautiful narration of Meena Kumari’s life?
PN: I was looking for good poetry since long. I found Gulzar’s Shahb’s poetry and fell in love with its deepness. It took me two years to compose the selected recitals and this is how this melodramatic event on life of Meena Kumari has come to existence.
TN: What is the worst and best phase of Meena Kumari’s life?
PN: Meena Kumari’s life’s best phase was when she got awarded for ‘Sahib, Bibi aur Ghulam’. Her worst phase was when Dharmendra Ji left her.
TN: What inspiration can one derive from her life?
PN: We can learn from her life that we have to keep working hard, come what may. An artisit should live for art.
TN: Your Favorite Meena Kumari Movie?
PN: The song that she has acted in ‘Na Jao Saiyan’ is my favorite and Sahib, Biwi and Ghulam is my favorite movie featuring Meena Kumari.
TN: Which is your favorite Meena Kumari Film and what do you have to say on today’s program?
Ashok Shrivastava: I like all her movies. Indeed today’s event has proved that Noida also has serious music lovers. I would also like to thank Pawan Naidu and his team for giving such amazing performance.
TN: How tough was it to prepare for today’s event?
Swarjyoti: It was really tough to prepare for today’s performance as it involved really tough composition and deep poetry. I feel blessed to get in touch with this side of Meena Kumari’s life.
