New Delhi (India), 19th April 2023: This week, Meta is anticipated to carry out a further wave of widespread layoffs. According to reports from Bloomberg and Vox as many as 10,000 jobs may be impacted by this move. The layoffs follow Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement in March that the business would eliminate 10,000 additional positions during the ensuing months, in addition to the 11,000 positions eliminated in November.
According to a document obtained by Bloomberg News, the impact of this decision would probably be seen across the entire family of Meta’s programmes, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, the recently launched Reality Labs that further the company’s virtual reality objectives and Quest hardware.
Teams will be reorganised, and various remaining employees will be reassigned to work for new supervisors, according to the document distributed to managers. Meta will also request all North American workers who are able to work remotely, to do so on Wednesday so they can process the news.
The Vox quoted Lori Goler, Meta’s head of people, saying , “This will be a difficult time as we say goodbye to friends and colleagues who have contributed so much to Meta.”
The CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plans for a “year of efficiency” in 2023 include these ongoing layoffs. The cost-cutting initiatives taken by Meta are a result of a severe economic slump that has hit Silicon Valley hard and caused large tech companies like Meta to make cuts.
Zuckerberg had said, “In our Year of Efficiency, we will make our organisation flatter by removing multiple layers of management. As part of this, we will ask many managers to become individual contributors..”
