The 21 day old strike of Contractors associated with Municipal Corporation of Faridabad was finally called off on Tuesday evening. The contractors were on a strike for the last three weeks accusing the corporation not paying their due payments. On Monday, not finding anyone looking to their demands, the contractors have threatened to put off all the tube- wells supplying water to the city as well as all the street lights till their demands are taken care off. The contractors accused the government of not paying their amount due for more than a year. However, on Tuesday, Member of Parliament from Faridabad and Minister of State for Welfare and Social Empowerment in Central Government Sh. Krishan Pal Gurjar came forward to work out an amicable solution to the problem faced by the contractors. Gurjar was successful in breaking the ice by pursuing the contractors to end the three week old strike. The Minister said that he has assured the contractors that the corporation would be releasing the payment due till 28th February 2015. The amount, he said, would be released by 5th December 2015. He asked the contractors to continue with the development work already held for many days in different parts of the city.

The city has been shortlisted in the 98 cities of country for being upgraded to smart city. However, in order to be in the list of first 20 cities, the MP, MLAs and the government machinery is trying hard to keep the things in line. In this direction the infrastructure, the green belt and the work culture is being beefed up so that a feel of a smart city is reflected in every aspect of the city. With the strike of contractors ending up, the process of development is expected to be evident in a couple of days.
