California, 1st June 2023: Indian Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi alleged that his iPhone is being tapped and added that whatever he thinks and does is available to the government.
He revealed it while participating in a panel discussion of experts on various aspects of artificial intelligence, big data, machine learning and their implications on mankind in general and on issues like governance, social welfare measures and also disinformation and misinformation.
He took the platform to talk about the role that the ‘decentralised’ power structure in India and how that aids in the spread of data and technology. He even went on to relate his personal experience with drone technology and its regulation, which he claims “faced massive bureaucratic hurdles” with the small group of invited entrepreneurs.
According to Gandhi, data is the new gold, and countries such as India have recognised its true potential. “Adequate data safety and security regulations are required.”
It is during this Q/A session of the panel when he talked about governments using Pegasus and similar spyware when he hinted that he had accepted the fact that his phone is tapped, and even went to pick up his phone and greet hello to PM Modi in a joking manner.
