NATIONAL CONFERENCE AT IEC GROUP OF INSTITUTION, GR. NOIDA

Today on April 29, 2014, a National Conference on “Natural Calamities and mitigating strategies: options for better tomorrow” has been organized where 142 research papers; articles were submitted by Academicians and corporate professionals.

Dr. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor Gautam Buddha University, was the chief guest at inaugural session whereas Dr. R.K. Khandal, Vice Chancellor, UPTU joined valedictory session as chief guest.

The event begun with lighting of lamp and Saraswati Vandana, where chief guest, Dr. J.P. Sharma, Dr. Yuvraj Bhatnagar, Shri Kamal Singh, Sh. R.L. Gupta, Chairman IEC Group of Institutions, Dr. D.B. Singh, Group Director IEC, were present.

Dr. D.B. Singh, Director, IEC Group of Institutions mentioned in his welcome speech that it is an immediate requirement to focus on this issue since we have recently seen a great devastation by Uttrakhand disaster. Dr. Singh told that 78 Researcher, Academicians & Industrial delegates have presented their research work/articles wherein various strategic options were discussed which will surely help to mitigate & prepare to face any disaster.

Dr. J.P. Sharma, congratulate IEC-GI for organizing the National Conference. In his speech he emphasized that India is very prone to Natural Calamities due to its geographical location & geological condition. Dr. Sharma expressed that calamities have been happening, are happening & will happen, and it is very sad to say that no technology can stop it. The only way left is to be ready to face it. He also suggested some pre & pro disaster mitigation strategies.

Dr. Yuvraj Bhatnagar & Sh. Kamal Singh were invited as key note speaker who shared their valuable thoughts & experiences.

Dr Yuvraj Bhatnagar was mainly focusing on the importance of quality education to face man made or natural calamities where as Sri Kamal Singh stressed that People are becoming more and more vulnerable to disasters of all types, including earthquake, flood, cyclones, landslides, droughts, accidents, plane crash, forests fire, etc. With the technological advancements and progress, the force of disasters is also changing. When they occur they surpass all preparedness and eagerness of society and pose bigger challenge to them. He emphasized on individual preparedness and awareness to minimize the impact and loss.

Sh. R.L. Gupta Chairman IEC Group stressed upon sincerity of the topic. He spoke that disaster management is not only a regional or national problem but a global issue, where a holistic approach to mitigate is required

Vice-chancellor of UPTU Dr RK Khandal in his own style stated that all the disaster are actually man -made disaster it is the man who is ultimately responsible for such calamities. He appealed the institutions to keep on organizing such events on frequent basis. Both the vice chancellors and other delegates unveiled the book titled “Disaster Management & Mitigating Strategies; option for better tomorrow”
