NIA averts terror attack in the country

New Delhi (27/12/18) : On December 26, National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested 10 suspected members hailing from different parts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh after conducting various raids, who were allegedly planning terror attacks in the National Capital and adjoining cities targeting politicians and vital installations at the crowded places.

The arrested 10-member group was headed by Mufti Mohammed Suhail and also includes a civil engineering student from a renowned private university in Noida, a third-year student pursuing Bachelor of arts from Delhi and welders.

According to the investigation agency, arrested members are the part of a newly formed terror outfit ‘Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam’, which can be loosely translated as ‘war for the cause of Islam’.

Why detention is significant

25 kg of explosive material, such as potassium nitrate, ammonium nitrate, sulphur, sugar material paste, 112 alarm clocks, mobile phone circuits, batteries, 51 pipes, remote control toys, a country made rocket launcher, wireless digital doorbell, steel containers, electric wires, 12 pistols, 150 rounds of live ammunition, knives and sword was recovered by the agency, which indicates that they were allegedly planning a terror attack ahead of new year or Republic day.

On the other hand, mother of Saeed and Raees has a different version, “they (NIA officials)took off the pressure nozzle of our tractor trolly by calling it a rocket launcher. They also arrested my sons”, quoted as saying in a media report.

Names of suspects arrested: Mufti Mohammed Suhail alias Hazrath, Anas Yunus, Rashid Zafar Raq alias Zafar, Saeed alias Sayeed, Saeed’s brother Raees Ahmad, Zubair Malik, Zubair’s brother Zaid, Saqib Iftekar, Mohammed Irshad and Mohammed Azam.

Terror attacks in the metropolis during NDA tenure

After the power shift in the center from Congress-led UPA to BJP led NDA in May 2014, no terror incidents have been reported in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
